What's the big idea?
What impression do you want your hedging to provide?
A wide range of hedging plants are stocked, subject to availability, in large sizes:-
Formal
Box or Yew are perfect for achieving a formal effect.
Instant Hedging
Truly “Instant Hedging” - For the ultimate plant for instant screening, security,
density and sound absorption (and usually not subject to planning consent), tolerant
to a wide range of conditions, available in sizes up to 2 metres (or more) as a
cost effective evergreen screen, why not try our Laurel ‘hedging blocks’?
These blocks are trimmed twice per year for a number of years prior to sale to ensure
their density and fullness to allow you to “build” a mature hedge as if laying building
blocks side by side.
Left: 5-6ft “Instant” Laurel from Wykeham Mature Plants.
Right: 5ft Laurel from another nursery”
Traditional
For a more traditional garden hedge, Beech, Hornbeam, Privet and Holly are ideal.
Contemporary
For a more contemporary feel, why not try Portuguese Laurel, Photinia “Red Robin”,
variegated Eleagnus or Viburnum tinus?
Conifers
Don’t be afraid of conifers for hedging. Even the dreaded Leylandii serves a purpose
and makes an excellent hedge if properly maintained. However alternative, less vigorous
conifers are also available.
Country
To achieve a “country” hedge, particularly using plants that attract wildlife, choosing
a mixture containing Thorn, Field Maple, Hazel, Guelder Rose, Spindle or various
others add variety and interest.
Ornamental
We also produce a range of ornamental shrubs suitable for more informal and flowering
hedges and screens. Examples might include: Forsythia, Escallonia, Cotoneaster cornubia
or Cotoneaster lacteus, Viburnum (various species), Weigela, Physocarpus, Osmanthus.
Security
For security planting to deter unwanted visitors, plants such as Berberis, Thorn,
Holly or Pyracantha make ideal prickly hedging.
Frames and Screens
We also produce a range of evergreen shrubs trained onto frames to provide instant
screening. Subject to availability, the range may include: Cotoneaster, Ceanothus,
Garrya, Chaenomeles, Photinia, and others.
High Level Screening
We specialise in providing instant screening at higher levels to give you privacy
and to obscure unsightly views. Please contact us to discuss how we can provide
a solution to your problem
