Kept trimmed, Leylandii conifers create a wonderfully dense screen of a hedge. They can reduce noise pollution and act as an effective windbreak.

Leylandii is a hybrid, accidentally created in Wales in the 19th century. It comes from two species of cypress from different parts of North America: the Monterey and the Nootka. Leylandii are ideal for normal soil conditions, sun or partial shade, exposed inland and coastal sites.

Beech hedge plants are perfect for borders or screening. Spring leaves transform from fresh green to a glossy dark green in summer. In the autumn, you can enjoy Beech’s distinctive yellow fading to orange-brown hues.

As Beech is deciduous, it is exempt from the ‘high hedge’ restrictions which applies to evergreen hedges. When regularly clipped into a hedge, Beech retains its dead leaves. This results in ‘everbrown’ screening during winter.

Our beech hedge plants will tolerate most moist but free-draining soils, including chalk. However they are not suitable for waterlogged conditions.

Size of mature Beech hedge plants

Root balled stock available November to March: each hedge plant is supplied as a wire-wrapped soil root ball dug from our fields. This is heavy but manageable by two people using a sack trolley. These plants will deliver instant density if you plant one every 2ft (60cm). We dig these plants from our fields during the dormant period of November to March.

Looking for a beech tree?

Our beech hedging plants are grown and pruned to work in tandem with other plants. If you would like a large rounded tree as a specimen, please take a look at our Beech tree page.
