Crab apple Neville Copeman (Malus Neville Copeman) In the spring the tree is covered in pink/purple blossom with a faint white stripe and last for a particularly long time. The young leaves in the spring also have a hint of purple which fades during the summer. The fruit are some of the largest red crabs available and hang like prominent Christmas decorations which are also popular with the birds.

Fast growing tree that makes a splendid specimen. Warm summers produce the Chestnuts. The glossy leaves are strongly toothed: long pale yellow catkins in July.

Considered a large tree, it can reach heights and widths of 35m x 8m with a 2m girth and records exist of 1000-year-old trees.

Best in full sun in dry warm soil.

Common birch or Silver Birch (Betula pendula) is a popular native tree with silver bark and graceful weeping branches. The silver bark develops contrasting dark fissures and cracks with age and is a favourite with wildlife. The bright green almost triangular leaves with a serrated edge appear early in spring and produce a nice light dappled shade through the summer. In the autumn they turn buttery yellow. Brown catkins develop over winter, with the seeds of which are enjoyed by a number of small birds.

Our native Birch will grow in even the toughest conditions and thrives in full sun to partial shade and will tolerate moist soils. The tree has a conical shape and will grow to around 7 metres height and 4 metres spread in 20 years.
