Pear
Pear - ConferenceThe most well-known pear in the UK. Type: Dessert. Eating time: October - November. Pollination group: C. Fruit size: Medium. Partially self-fertile. Heavy cropping. Grow in moist but well-drained soils. Needs full sun to thrive.
Our pears are grown on a vigorous root stock to make traditional large trees. A firm pear when first picked, making it useful for cooking, softens nicely in the fruit bowl after a few days if you prefer your dessert pears less crunchy.
Pear trees hold their foliage longer than many other deciduous trees, making them surprisingly useful as screening trees.
Usually available from 10cm to 14cm girth.
