Diabolo - Ninebark
Physocarpus opulifolius Diabolo
A striking, upright, thicket-forming decidous shrub with dark coppery-purple leaves darkening to a coppery-chocolate colour in late summer. Golf-ball sized clusters of white flowers produced in early to mid summer, followed by small burgundy-coloured fruits/berries.
Regular pruning will make Physocarpus a useful, hardy, informal and colourful hedge if required.
Wind tolerant, hardy, and useful for damp (but not waterlogged) areas.
