Smoke bush royal purple
Cotinus coggyria Royal Purple"Smoke Tree" or "Venetian Sumach". Large shrub growing to 2.5-4m tall, bearing dark purple foliage, which turns red in autumn. Silvery fruit stands made up of feathery hairs on the stalks of the sterile flowers in late summer give the classic 'smoke' effect. Prefers full sun with dry feet.
Superb dark purple foliage in spring and summer with soft clusters of flowers in late summer giving the appearance of billowing smoke. The leaves have a slightly translucent quality to them so that, if you look at them with the sun behind the foliage, they look almost like soft stained glass. A lovely foliage plant with a warm, rich, dark colouring to add depth and interest to any planting scheme.
Available as bushes 75cm to 100cm tall in a 36ltr container.
