Double Flowered Ornamental cherries
Prunus Avium PlenaA medium sized round headed tree with an even crown and a spreading habit. Outstanding double white flowers open slightly later than its parent the wild cherry, in late April. Autumn colours of yellow and orange make for a good late display.
Ornamental cherries grow best in full sun on moist fertile deep loamy soils, it is perfectly happy on alkaline soils which it prefers. It will therefore grow well in a most garden or parkland positions. Poor soils should have organic matter added to the backfill during planting. It does not like waterlogged or permanently wet ground. A fast growing tree typically reaching a height of 10m (30ft).
